How To Extend The Life Of Your Hot Tub Cover.

Here are a few tips from the PoolTown Pros on how to extend the life of your hot tub cover.

1) To protect your hot tub cover from the sun, it is recommended to use some sort of protectant on the vinyl. A quality soap or marine grade application protectant is great and will help preserve your cover and keep it safe from the damaging sunrays.

2) Try to keep the chlorine or bromine levels in the tub to a minimum as the gases released can cause peeling on the underside of the hot tub cover. This can also make the cover brittle causing it to fall apart prematurely.

3) Each time you shock your spa you should leave your cover open or off for at least 15 to 20 minutes so that the expelled gases can escape. By doing this, you will protect the underside of the hot tub cover and also help clear the water.

4) Be sure to inspect your hot tub cover from time to time paying close attention to any cuts or holes in the vinyl material. The foam inserts inside of the vinyl are meant to stay dry and any holes in the vinyl or plastic vapor barrier will cause the inserts to pick up moisture making the cover extremely heavy. If you do notice a hole in your cover, clear postal mailing tape is a good suggestion to cover the hole so that the inside stays dry.

5) Most hot tub covers have a removable foam core. Its a great idea to remove the foam core and flip it over to reverse the sag in the cover. This should be done approximately once every year. The PoolTown Pros definitely recommend this is your hot tub is larger than 7' x 7'.
